Starting from a small office in Knutsford in 1982 under the name ‘Cheshire Office Services’, more than 30 years later we’ve become a household name across most of Cheshire. In that time recruitment has changed a lot - from the ‘paper-based’ days when job hunters would ‘register’ at their local high street agency, filling in copious forms and scanning local newspapers for jobs to the internet / job-board searches and social networking routes used today.

Even our original name became 'redundant' as we moved from supplying mainly 'secretaries and book-keepers' to developing our specialist sectors and within these, the innumerably diverse roles required by today's businesses.

As our slogan states, we really believe that people do matter, which is why our philosophy is based on matching the right people to the right jobs. We understand that putting 'square pegs in round holes' can leave people unhappy in their new role as well as costing employers more money and time as they are left trying to plug the holes caused by staff ill-suited for the job.

Whilst most companies use a variety of recruitment models and the trend today is for low cost, automated, applicant tracking and matching systems, at COS we think that some of the old fashioned methods are just as important now as they were. For example, we believe it's essential to meet every job-seeker we work with, not simply to understand more about what they've done in the past and what they're now looking to achieve, but to assess their full potential to a future employer, rather than pigeon-holing them from a brief scan of their CV.

Similarly, we think it's crucial to visit every company so we can see the actual working environment and get a feel for the culture if we're to match correctly. We also think that people deserve better from their agency than to have their CVs sent out 'en-masse' to any remotely suitable sounding job, without their permission and without discussing the vacancy with them.

We’re a small, family-run business and our values are based on Passion, Creativity, Integrity and Respect. We feel it’s as important for us as it is for our clients to get our own staff right, develop them professionally and motivate and encourage them to stay with us so that our business customers can benefit from continuity in their relationships with us and we're proud that our longest serving consultant has been with us for 15 years.

So our initial meeting, with job-seeker or client, is only the start of a long relationship with our company that grows and develops over many years.

We know that people work harder and are happier and more motivated if they're in the right job with the right employer and companies grow faster and become more profitable only when they employ the right people. And we believe that our experience, values and methods enable us to truly make a difference with the service we provide.
