Temp Pay
Temporary workers are paid weekly, in arrears, by BACS transfer directly into their bank or building society account once we have been able to verify the hours worked (receipt of a completed and signed/verified timesheet will aid this process). Payment will be received by the Friday following the week you've worked. We'll send your payslip to you on the Wednesday after the week worked but if you don't receive it by the Friday please call the Administration Department at our Knutsford Head Office. It's important that you let us have details of your bank/building society account, along with a copy paying in slip (to verify details) as soon as you begin temping to avoid any delays in payment as we cannot pay by cash or cheque. A form for this purpose, or for use if you change banks in the future, can be found in our Downloads section of this site.

Timesheets may be obtained from your Consultant, our Administration Department, or from our Downloads section of this site.

To prevent basic rate tax being deducted from your wages it's very important that you let us have your P45 from a previous employer (Parts 2 & 3 only), or complete a P46 (P38 if you're a student) - forms are available from our Downloads section of this site. Completed tax forms will be forwarded on to the Inland Revenue to let them know that you are currently working with COS. If there are to be any changes in your tax code, the Inland Revenue will notify you, and COS, in writing (this normally takes 4-6 weeks).

We are required by the Inland Revenue to send you your P45 if you haven't worked with us for a period of time - don't be alarmed, you're still registered with us, we're trying to find you work and will call you as soon as we have something suitable!

Holiday Pay
In line with the Government's Working Time Regulations, temporary workers are entitled to 20 days paid annual leave during the leave year running from November 1st to October 31st.

We can only pay you for time that you actually take off work as the scheme was designed to encourage people to take holidays.

Accrual of paid holiday is continuous throughout the year. Whilst in ongoing employment, this works out as 1 days' holiday accrued approximately every 12.5 working days. Hence, after 12 months' continuous service, temporary workers will have accrued their full 20-day entitlement.

Temporary workers can claim the holidays due to them at any time during the year via a Holiday Request form available from the Downloads section of this site.

Notice must be given in good time, at least twice as long as the period of leave to be taken. It is very important that you let your Consultant know if you are planning to take leave. Any holiday entitlement due from COS will be paid out in the week after the holiday has been taken.

Under the regulations, you may not carry holiday pay forward from one leave year to the next, therefore any holiday pay due must be taken in the leave year in which it was accrued.

When you leave COS, any holiday pay entitlement accrued but not used will be paid out in your final payslip.

Bank and Public Holidays will be taken as paid holiday if you have accrued the necessary days, i.e. paid Bank Holidays will come out of your 20-day entitlement. In this instance, Bank and Public Holidays will be paid out automatically by COS to those temporary workers who have accrued the necessary days at that point.

Requested holiday pay is worked out as an average of gross basic earnings over the prior 12 week period.

Leaving COS
If you find another job and want to leave COS, we'll be sorry to lose you but wish you the very best for your future. Remember to let your Consultant know so that we can arrange to forward your P45 as soon as your final wages have been paid, including any entitlement to paid leave you've accrued. If you need a reference please ask your new employer to write to our Administrator, at our Knutsford Head Office and don't forget that we will be happy to welcome you back at any time that you may need us again in the future.
